What to Bring to Your Mobile Notary Appointment
Being prepared helps ensure your notarization is completed quickly, accurately, and without delays. Below is a simple checklist of items you should have ready before your mobile notary appointment.
Personal Appearance Is Required
California law requires that signers personally appear before the notary at the time of notarization.
-
Remote appearance by webcam, phone, or video is not permitted
-
All signers must be physically present during the appointment
Acceptable Identification
All notarizations require valid, acceptable identification.
Please bring one of the following:
-
A current California driver’s license or state ID card
-
A U.S. passport
-
Another acceptable form of identification as listed on the FAQ page
Important: The name on your identification must exactly match the name on the document.
Example: If the document lists Mary Jane Doe, your identification must include all three names. Identification showing only Mary Doe would not be sufficient.
Documents to Be Notarized
-
Bring all documents complete and ready for signing
-
Do not sign documents in advance unless specifically instructed
Only the notarial sections (acknowledgment or jurat) may be completed by the notary.
If you are unsure how to complete any part of the document, you must contact the party who prepared the paperwork. Notaries cannot provide legal advice or fill out documents for you.
Additional Items for Loan Signings
If your appointment involves a loan or real‑estate transaction, you may also need:
-
A photocopy of your identification (if requested by your lender or title company)
-
A cashier’s check or other payment, if a balance is due at signing (confirm with your loan officer)
-
Any required witnesses, present at the appointment with valid identification
Witness Requirements
If your document requires witnesses:
-
All witnesses must be present at the time of signing
-
Witnesses must have acceptable identification
Please confirm witness requirements before the appointment to avoid delays.
